What is dental reconstruction?
Reconstruction is considered when the majority of the tooth needs to be repaired. Direct reconstruction is that which is carried out directly on the tooth. It is generally carried out in a single session and is usually applied to less serious lesions. The material used will depend on the patient’s decision and the dentist’s advice.

In which cases is dental reconstruction most common?
- Crown fractures: when a part of the crown is lost, it is necessary to restore it by means of some kind of dental reconstruction.
- Very destructive caries: if the caries affects the nerve, inlays or reconstruction with synthetic porcelain are used. If the nerve is affected, endodontics is necessary to avoid pulp infections and to reinforce the root with a pin.
- Aesthetic treatment: when teeth are badly worn, misaligned or with various defects, they can be reconstructed with resin or porcelain to restore their original shape, colour and texture.
- Total restoration: in case of severe trauma, a restorative treatment plan is necessary to restore the patient’s oral health, functionality and aesthetics of teeth and gums.
