Protecting your gums is protecting the base of your smile
In Clinica Torres we treat periodontitis with precise diagnosis, personalized periodontal control and continuous monitoring to stop the disease, care for your gums and keep your teeth as long as possible.

Characteristics treatment
The treatment of this disease is done by raticular scraping and smoothing, which consists of removing the jar (calculation) and the bacterial plate from the surface of the teeth and below the line of the gum.
- Improves gums: This treatment results in an improvement in the aesthetics and functionality of teeth and gums.
- Custom tracking: Personalized follow-up during and after treatment, to keep our patients’ gums in good condition.
- Rapid treatment: Reduces the possibility of gums bleeding and reduces the risk of loss of dental parts.
Treatment ofperiodontitis
By means of a radicular scraping and smoothing, in-depth cleaning aims to remove bacteria from periodontal bags. A new test will be carried out later to assess the gingival healing capacity.
If the disease continues to advance or is much more aggressive, a second phase of treatment is needed. In periodontal surgery, reduced but not removed periodontal bags will be treated.

How is the treatment ofperiodontitis?
A record of the loss of bone presented by each tooth through a periodontogram will be made during a first visit and we will take a series of X-rays that will help us with the correct diagnosis and treatment plan of the patient. In certain cases we also perform a microbiological analysis of the bacteria of the mouth.
The first part of the treatment consists of the elimination of the calculation or jar that exists below the gum by means of curetas and ultrasonides, which is known as the root scraping and aligning or basic phase. This treatment is done under anesthesia and should not be upset for the patient during or after.

Frequently asked questions
Gingivitis usually affects only the gums and may cause inflammation or bleeding. Periodontitis is a more advanced stage in which there may also be bone loss, periodontal pockets, tooth mobility or gum recession. A periodontal examination and diagnostic tests are necessary to distinguish between the two correctly.
Periodontitis is a chronic disease that can be controlled, but it requires ongoing monitoring. The aim of treatment is to stop its progression, reduce inflammation, control bacteria and keep the gums stable over the long term through regular check-ups and periodontal maintenance.
The frequency depends on the condition of the gums, the response to treatment and each patient’s individual risk. In many cases, periodontal maintenance is recommended every few months to prevent recurrence and detect any changes before they progress.
Yes. If left untreated, periodontitis can progressively destroy the bone and tissues that support the teeth, increasing the risk of tooth mobility and tooth loss. Early detection can help slow its progression and preserve the teeth for longer.
In many cases, yes, but the periodontal disease must first be controlled and the gums stabilised. Active inflammation can increase the risk of complications around dental implants, so proper diagnosis and ongoing maintenance are essential.
