Characteristics of the Pinhole technique

The technique used for gum recession offers many advantages over traditional procedures.

Immediate results

This treatment provides an aesthetic improvement that is visible from the first moment, and the small access point usually heals within 24 hours.

Rapid recovery

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, patients generally have a fairly short recovery period.

Heart with check inside

Painless

Because there are no incisions or sutures, and the procedure takes a relatively short period of time, patients report minimal discomfort.

Pinhole technique

The Pinhole surgical technique offers a number of unique benefits and has revolutionised the way we look at the treatment of gum recession. Instead of scalpels, this procedure uses an innovative instrument that creates a small hole in the patient’s healthy gum tissue over the area requiring treatment. This small opening accommodates specialised instruments that the doctor will use to gently loosen and expand the gum tissue, covering the exposed areas of the teeth where the soft tissue has receded.

By the time the gum tissue has shifted position, small strips of collagen are placed in the treatment area. This will promote the natural production of collagen and elastin, which will promote healing and reduce inflammation. Rather than requiring tissue grafts and sutures, this procedure involves simply adjusting the gum tissue already present at the treatment site, with minimal post-operative discomfort and minimal bleeding.

Who is eligible for this treatment?

Those patients suffering from periodontal disease and/or receding gums who do not wish to undergo the traditional gum grafting procedure. These patients are candidates for Pinhole treatment. This technique is the first minimally invasive procedure to effectively treat gum recession. This sutureless treatment uses existing healthy gum tissue, which is repositioned using instruments that work through a very small opening in the gums. The procedure is not uncomfortable and requires minimal recovery time.
